Woman crashes on Highway 54 while texting and driving

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers say a Jefferson City woman crashed her car in Miller County Saturday night because she was distracted from reading a text message.

The crash happened on Highway 54 just after 8 p.m.

According to the crash report, Ashley Bond, 22, drove across the median and two lanes of oncoming traffic. The car went down a ditch, flipped several times and then caught on fire.

Bond was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries and has since been released.
