Smith-Cotton student charged for threatening principal with a knife

A Pettis County teen was tasered and arrested Monday morning after he allegedly threatened an administrator with a knife.

The incident happened in a hallway at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia around 9:30 a.m. Monday. Students in the area were placed on a lockdown and stayed in their classrooms as a precaution.

A school resource officer used a taser on 17-year-old Timmie Chapman after he resisted arrest.

Court documents said Chapman tried to stab the principal after he tried to send Chapman to in-school suspension for violating school rules involving his girlfriend.

Champan refused to go to ISS and said he was going to leave, and began walking toward the gym instead of the outside doors.

Video surveillance showed Chapman reaching into a black backpack and pulling out a lock blade knife with the lock folded in.

Chapman took off down a hallway and several teachers tried to stop him before he opened the knife and made an attempt to stab the principal.

A few teachers pinned him to the ground, and punched him before the knife was seized from his hand.

Chapman is charged with resisting arrest, unlawful use of a weapon, 1st degree assault, and armed criminal action.

The lockdown was lifted after Chapman was taken off campus.

No other students were involved or injured during the incident.
