Craigslist meetup leads to a theft

A sergeant with the Columbia Police Department confirmed a man stole a small amount of money from a woman after they agreed to meet to buy and sell video games.

Police say the suspect arrived in a van with an acquaintance to the meetup spot. The victim and another passenger arrived in a car.

When the woman tried to exchange money to buy the games, authorities confirm the man revealed he didn’t actually have them and grabbed the money from her hands.

The suspect ran away on foot but not before he told his driver that the victims had a gun in the car, according to Columbia police.

Police say there was no gun or evidence of a gun in the car.

The driver of the van took off and the victims followed. They also called 911.

The incident was first reported by officials as a road rage incident because the victims were following the van near Highway 63.

Police caught up with the victims and the driver of the van near the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

No arrests were made and the suspect is still at large.

The department said it considers the investigation closed at this time.
