Macon authorities suspect bulk phone purchases part of trafficking ring
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office released new details from its investigation into reports of several phones being bought at Walmart.
The department says after further investigation it believes the purchases were made by a cell phone trafficking ring. Officials do not believe the phones were bought to be used in criminal activity.
The sheriff’s office says with this type of trafficking the phones are normally bought in an area for a low price and then shipped to a different region to be sold for a large profit.
Authorities also say this type of activity can happen with a variety of items from baby formula to electronics.
