Court upholds murder conviction for Columbia man

An appeals court has upheld the murder conviction for a Columbia man.

Domionte Cheatum was found guilty of second degree murder in 2014, after the 2013 death of Anthony Unger. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the crime.

Cheatum appealed his conviction, but earlier this week the Western District Court of Appeals in Kansas City unanimously upheld the conviction.

The murder happened in late June 2013 after investigators think a drug deal turned violent in the parking lot outside El Maguey. Officers found Anthony M. Unger, 25, of Jefferson City, shot.
