Firefighters investigate smoke at Columbia business

Firefighters were on the scene of a reported fire this morning at Johnson Products off Paris Road in Columbia.

The fire was reported shortly after 4 a.m. by a passing driver, who claimed to see smoke coming from the building.

When crews arrived, they found a fire near a paper hopper, though crews reported mostly smoke and few flames.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, officials said. Crews then worked to ventilate the building.

No one was inside the building when the fire started. The cause of the smoke has not been determined.

This isn’t the first time a fire has broken out at Johnson Products, an insulation contractor.

In early October, there was another fire at the Columbia business. There were no reported injuries in that fire as well.
