Two Arizona women busted with 73 pounds of cocaine in Phelps Co.

Two Tuscon, Arizona residents were arrested last week after Phelps Co. deputies apparently caught traveling on I-44 with drugs in their car.

Deputies stopped the car near the 197 mile marker on eastbound I-44 on December 3.

Deputies searched the car and found 73 pounds of cocaine in a hidden compartment.

23-year-old Monica Castillo and 24-year-old Erica Leon were arrested, and further investigation by the DEA led to a home in Columbus, OH, where two more search warrants were conducted.

5 other people were arrested on felony drug charges related to this apparent drug trafficking case.

There, investigators found 1/2 kilo of cocaine, 100 grams of heroin, a handgun, and $50,000 in cash.

Both Castillo and Leon were arrested for drug trafficking and taken to the Phelps Co. Jail.
