Man arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman in central Columbia

Columbia Police arrested a man accused of beating a woman for several hours in central Columbia.

Jamie Chick, 31, was taken into custody around 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Red Roof Inn on Texas Avenue.

The assault apparently started around 7:00 Friday evening on Sanford Avenue and lasted until about 1:00 Saturday morning. Police said they were not dispatched to the address until around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

CPD said Chick was holding a woman against her will. He reportedly beat and strangled her over a six-hour period, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness.

Police say the victim had several injuries includingbruising, lumps, lacerations, impact marks all over her body, and marks on her neck.

Chick was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic assault, felonious restraint, felony stealing and misdemeanor property damage.

Heis now being held in the Boone County Jail without bond. Chick is expected to appear in court Monday afternoon.
