Opposition voiced against moving Desert Storm Memorial
A group opposed to moving the Desert Storm war memorial in the Boone County courthouse plaza showed up at the Boone County Commission meeting Tuesday morning.
A handful of residents spoke out against moving the memorial during the public comments portion of the meeting.
ABC 17 News reported in August that the commission voted unanimously to move the memorial because of a Christian symbol on the bottom, known as the ichthus fish.
Veterans and residents, including the family of one of the fallen soldiers named on the memorial, packed the commission meeting to speak out in opposition.
On Tuesday, Presiding Commissioner Dan Atwill said the plan to replace the monument is moving forward, however, there’s no word yet when it will be moved.
