Man arrested for stealing gas and running from police

The Vienna Police Department and the Maries County Sheriff’s Department chased after two men suspected of stealing gasoline from a transport truck Saturday night.

Police said Michael Eads, 37, of Koeltztown, Mo., and Kody Nilges, 22, of Koeltztown, Mo., were seen stealing about 50 gallons of diesel fuel from a transport truck at Vienna Industrial Park.

When police arrived on scene, Eads and Nilges sped away.

The responding Vienna police officer chased after them on Highway 42. A sheriff’s deputy soon found the wrecked suspect vehicle not far away.

Nilges, the passenger, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He later admitted to authorities that he and Eads were stealing gasoline.

Eads is currently in the Maries County Jail on no bond. He has been charged with resisting arrest, 2nd degree assault, possession of controlled substance, careless and imprudent driving, and stealing.
