Columbia man arrested for shooting in Cole County

A Columbia man is behind bars Sunday after a shooting in Cole County.

Around 6:00 Friday night, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 1500 block of Westview Drive. Deputies found a victim on scene with a gunshot wound to the face, according to Capt. John Wheeler.

Emergency crews took the victim to University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia with non-life threatening injuries. The victim is currently in stable condition, Wheeler said.

Investigators on scene identified Laquent Palmer of Columbia as the suspected shooter.

The Columbia Police Department later found Palmer and took him into custody. The Jefferson City Police Department transported Palmer to the Cole County Jail.

Palmer is facing possible charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is currently being held in the Cole County Jail on no bond.
