Boone Co. Sheriff’s Department warns residents of scammer claiming to be a deputy

Multiple residents contacted the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Saturday about someone claiming to be a deputy and trying to get their personal information.

The scammer was calling people to talk to them about an alleged warrant for their arrest. They would then ask for personal information to pay for a surety bond.

The sheriff’s department said it handles all bonds and arrest warrant through the Boone County Jail.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call is asked to contact the Boone County Sheriff’s Department at 573-875-1111 or Boone County Joint Communications at 573-442-6131.
