Three men charged after police allegedly find them with drugs and guns

Three Columbia men were charged Friday afternoon after officers went looking for a wanted subject.

Authorities say they found five loaded handguns, two rifles, several bags of cocaine and an electronic scale in a residence in the 1600 block of Parkside Drive.

“Officers were outside of the house and there was an open window and they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the house, so they knew there was possible drug usage inside the house,” said Latisha Stroer, Columbia Police Public Information Officer. “Then they obtained a search warrant to search the house.”

Police say they were looking for 22-year-old Jordan Smith who had a felony probation warrant. Smith apparently tried running away from the officers.

“He didn’t resist arrest until they took him to the police car,” Stroer said. “Then he took off running from the officer. He was then apprehended again and placed into the police car without incident.”

Smith is charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Two other men in the home were also arrested. Police arrested 28-year-old Denico Crawley and 22-year-old Justin Myers. Both are charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.

All three men have prior criminal records and by law are not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

Officer Stroer said two of the handguns were stolen.

Crawley and Myers are being held in the Boone County Jail with $90,000 bonds. Smith is also in the Boone County Jail with a bond set at $75,000.
