Homes evacuated surrounding house leaking gas in Moberly

Some homes in Moberly were temporarily evacuated Monday night after a vacant house started leaking natural gas.

The Moberly Fire Chief has confirmed to ABC 17 News all homes in the 900 block of Henry Street were evacuated after Ameren and fire crews discovered a leak in the vacant home that is being demolished.

The Moberly Fire Department got a call around 5:15 p.m. notifying them of the leak.

Moberly Fire Chief Robert Creed tells ABC 17 the leak was from a damaged service line for the house being demolished. He says the line was damaged at some point while crews were tearing down the house.

Ameren crews stopped the leak, and all emergency services have left the area.
