Better Business Bureau warns Royals fans of World Series ticket scams
The World Series is starting in Kansas City Tuesday with the Royals going for their second straight title.
The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about counterfeit tickets that may be going around the market.
“The ticket reselling business is a 10 million dollar industry, so there are an awful lot of people out there trying to get your money,” said Sean Spence, the Mid-Missouri Regional Director. “So it’s really important to pay attention to where you’re getting your tickets.”
Spence said they days of buying tickets from someone outside the stadium are over. He said consumers should never give their money to people they don’t know.
Sites that are accredited by the Better Business Bureau are the most reliable for buying tickets. Spence said website like StubHub and Ticketmaster are authorized by teams to resell tickets.
Spence said doing some research before buying tickets from an online auction site like eBay or Craigslist is very important.
“If you’re buying from someone who is an individual online, you’ll just want to make sure they have lots of sales, lots of reviews and lots of recent sales, because sometimes people hijack these account and use them for fraudulent purposes,” he said.
Spence also said consumers should never wire money to someone. He advises using a credit card that way there is a chance of getting reimbursed if the tickets are fake.
