Man charged in connection to suspicious device on Stadium Boulevard

The man arrested in connection to a suspicious device on Stadium Boulevard was charged Friday afternoon with unlawful transport of a weapon and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Columbia Police arrested Sean David Rogers, 33, Thursday night in connection to a homemade incendiary device that was found in the car he was driving.

According to court documents, the Mid-Missouri Bomb Squad found a working road flare zip-tied to a starter fluid canister.

Bomb technicians said a possible explosion could have occurred if the flare was activated and lit the starter fluid.

Authorities told ABC 17 News the bomb squad did not detonate the device.

Police said they received information about the explosive device earlier in the day and put Rogers’ home under surveillance.

Court documents say a woman told authorities Rogers had threatened to blow up her car with a pipe bomb and that the device was in his car.

Rogers and a woman left the home in a car that allegedly had the explosive device. Police say they pulled that car over on Stadium Boulevard at 5:46 p.m. and both people were detained.

The female suspect was not arrested. She was released from the Columbia Police Department.

Rogers told police he was unaware of the explosive device in the car.

Rogers has a felony conviction in the state of Washington.

He was also indicted Thursday on a previous, unrelated incident of unlawful use of a weapon and possession with intent to deliver drugs.

The prosecuting attorney is requesting Rogers’ bond be set to $100,000 dollars.
