Missouri River bridge gets much needed maintenance
The Highway 54 bridge that passes over the Missouri River into Jefferson City is being repair by MODOT this month.
Workers are performing scour mitigation repair to the piers that are nearest to the main channel of the river.
The $1.2 million in repairs are necessary because of erosion at the underwater base of the bridge.
To fix it, MODOT is placing more than 340 sandbags at the base. Each one weighs 8,000 pounds.
After that, workers will place hundreds of gigantic boulders on top of the sandbags.
This is the first time this bridge has had this repair to its structure a MODOT’s resident engineer says he believe this will be a permanent fix.
