Sirens accidentally set off Friday morning during daily test
Sirens went off in the Columbia area early Friday morning after they were inadvertently set off.
The tornado sirens were heard around 6:30 a.m. in south Columbia, but Boone County 911 dispatchers told ABC 17 it was not because of an emergency.
The sirens were accidentally activated during a daily radio system test.
We were first told the sirens were activated due to an equipment malfunction. Boone County Joint Communications tells us it was not a malfunction.
The process for siren activations is under review to evaluate any necessary changes.
