Two Kansas City firefighters killed in apartment complex fire

Two Kansas City firefighters were killed Monday night while battling a fire at an apartment complex.

Our Kansas City affiliate KMBC reports crews were called out to the scene around 7 p.m. on Independence Avenue. The building partially collapsed while the two firefighters were trying to leave the building. Two other firefighters were also injured in the collapse.

Crews rescued two residents who were not injured.

We are still working to find out what started this fire. As of 11 p.m. crews were still on scene.
