Tracking sunshine before widespread showers and storms on Father’s Day

TODAY: I'm tracking fog developing before sunrise this morning as temperatures begin in the upper 50s and winds are light, blowing out of the northwest. This will quickly become less of a factor in the forecast as sunshine persists throughout the afternoon hours and temperatures jump back up into the low 80s.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking a gradual increase in cloud cover overnight ahead of a decaying system that could bring showers for some by the end of the night. Temperatures are expected to drop back into the mid-60s as winds stay slight, shifting into the south during this period.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking any morning showers exiting by Saturday afternoon, leaving mostly sunny conditions to go out and enjoy as temperatures warm back up into the low 80s. Saturday evening, more clouds will return ahead of another storm system that will be moving out of Kansas, entering Mid-Missouri by early Sunday morning. This will bring widespread showers and rumbles of thunder for the majority of Father's Day morning, but depending on how quickly this activity can clear out, another round of storms positioned mainly along and south of I-70 could occur during the evening hours. The main concern for now will be flooding, as higher rainfall rates associated with this event could easily bring 1-3" of rain by the end of Sunday, but we will be keeping an eye on the potential for stronger storms for Sunday evening. The front bringing this activity will result in slightly cooler temperatures to start the following week, with mid to upper 70s expected for Monday and Tuesday. Low 80s return by Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, but another potential for showers could be expected by Thursday as well.
