One man charged after two women robbed outside Columbia church
Charges were filed Tuesday morning against 43-year old Glen E. Lewis who is accused of robbing two women outside a Columbia church Monday.
Lewis was taken into custody Monday morning shortly after the robbery.
He is possibly facing the following charges: Two counts of robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Felonious Restraint, Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Felony Tampering and Probation and Parole Warrant.
Officer Latisha Stroer said two women were robbed at knife-point outside Broadway Christian Church while picking vegetables.
According to court documents, Lewis put zip ties on one woman while he took her cell phone and keys.
Lewis then approached a second woman and robbed her at knife-point. He took the woman’s keys and then stole her car.
Stroer said an FBI agent later spotted the same stolen vehicle driving on southbound Highway 63 and tried to pull the driver over.Stroer said the suspect then exited onto Broadway and jumped out of the vehicle near the Elks Lodge.
Lewis was taken into custody on Stone Mountain Parkway near Mondavi Court.
He’s being held on $1 million cash only bond.
Michelle Baumstark with Columbia Public Schools told ABC 17 News Cedar Ridge Elementary School and New Haven School were put on extra alert after law enforcement notified them about the search.
Baumstark said all of the district’s schools have buzz-in systems. She said parents were notified at both schools and children were not allowed to go outside.
Baumstark said that alert was lifted just before 10:30 Monday morning. She said students will bring a note home to their parents Monday afternoon about the incident.
