Trial date set for man accused in Columbia death
A trial date has been set for a Columbia man charged for his role in the death of a 17-year-old.
Stone Midgyett is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the January 4 death of Deante Smith.
The shooting happened near Silver Mill Drive and White River.
Police told ABC 17 News Midgyett reported a fight occurred between Midgyett’s friends and Smith’s friends.
Midgyett said that as Smith ran, Smith turned around and started shooting at Midgyett and his friends.
Midgyett told police he pulled a gun from his pants and fired 14 rounds back at Smith.
Midgyett will appear in court for his first day of trial on November 17.
