Fall Begins Wednesday

Fall begins at 3:21 AM Wednesday as the sun’s direct rays pass over the equator, giving us nearly equal day and night. Sunrise will be due east and sunset due west for the start of fall.

After the equinox, days will continue to get shorter and nights longer, leading to cooler weather as we head toward winter. Longer, cooler nights lead to more fog formation during the fall months in Mid-Missouri. Fall also brings an increase in severe storms in Mid-Missouri as cooler air starts sinking farther south, bringing storm systems into the Midwest.
