Five injured in two-car crash in Callaway County

Five people have been hurt in a two-vehicle collision in south Callaway County. The crash happened early Monday on Highway 94 east of Portland.

According to authorities at the scene, a van was driving around a curve and crossed into the opposite lane, where it hit a car head-on.

There were two passengers in the van going westbound – James Martin-Lucas and Jadelyn Weed.

There were three in the car it hit – Christina McDonald, Jessica Schleicher, and James Volkerding.

In all, five people were injured. 20-year-old Martin-Lucas was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia. The other four were taken by ambulance.

Each victim’s injuries have been classified as serious.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Weed was not wearing a seat belt and one passenger in the car wasn’t wearing one either.

As of Monday morning, Martin-Lucas, Volderking, and Weed are still in the emergency room.

McDonald and Schleicher have been discharged from University Hospital.
