Columbia Police warning about warrant scam

The Columbia Police Department is warning Mid-Missourians about a new scam making the rounds.

Officials said it appears someone is calling from the police department, and the scammer tells the victim they have an arrest warrant for anything from missed jury duty to traffic tickets.

They demand payment on prepaid cards, often over the internet.

Columbia Police said it never asks for payment over the phone.
