Battle High School radio tower not up in time for school
The Battle High School radio tower that was supposed to be up by now is not.
The tower would enable crews to talk to one another and joint communications during emergency situations in the high school’s area.
No tower means emergency crews inside the high school can’t communicate with crews outside or with joint communications.
A large permanent tower has been in the works for months. To ease some of the stress of completing it by the start of this school year, Boone County is constructing a temporary tower.
On Thursday Boone County’s presiding commissioner, Dan Atwill, said that tower is not up either. Atwill said there are a lot of moving parts involved with finishing it, but it should be done soon.
“The temporary tower according to the latest information I have will be available for use the third week of September,” said Atwill.
The temporary tower will be fully operational and offer all the services of the permanent one. Boone County expects the permanent radio tower to be finished by the end of October.
