Lincoln University students fed up with school-provided motel rooms

A group of Lincoln University students have had enough after they claim there are cockroaches and other pests in their school-provided accommodations.

The owner claims there are no bugs, and told ABC 17 News she has the pest report to prove it.

The students said they want to move out.

They’re staying at the America’s Best Value Inn on Jefferson Street in Jefferson City.

The group will be there until some time in September after dorm rooms open up on campus.

They said the rooms have cockroaches, spiders, and even bed bugs.

One student told ABC 17 News she lifted up her bed pillow and found a cockroach hiding out underneath it.

They’ve snapped several pictures of the roaches and said they can’t stay in the hotel any longer.

The owner said she’s had problems before, and if there is a problem, it’s the students who are leaving food around.

The owner showed ABC 17 News a report from a local pest control business, stating that they found no live bed bugs in the rooms they checked.

The owner said she sprays every ten days to make sure pests don’t show up.

ABC 17 News called the Cole Co. Health Dept. to see if there have been any complaints filed against the hotel, but we have not heard back from them.

Reviews on Trip Advisor did not mention bed bugs.

Lincoln University issued a statement on the accommodations, stating that it knows about the concerns of some students who are being housed in local hotel properties.

The release said, “We take the voice of our students very seriously and have visited the property and visited with the property managers. We will continue to utilize this and other off-site housing until the time comes that rooms become vacant on campus.”
