Bill proposed to change speed limit on Route K

Columbia City Council members will get a first look at a bill that proposes changing the speed limit on Route K south of the city.

The proposal is the result of a speed study done by MoDOT.

MoDOT looked at the section of Route K starting at Coneflower Avenue.

Providence Road, which is in the city limits, becomes Route K as you drive south toward McBaine.

The state agency is asking to reduce the section of Route K until Scott Blvd. from 55 mph to 45 mph.

The road features several subdivisions, with a few currently in construction as well.

That goes along with many curves and hills that block the view of oncoming traffic.

The bill would also raise the speed limit on north Providence Road near Vandiver from 35 mph to 45 mph.

The council will vote on the issue at its next meeting in September.
