Article claims Jefferson City teachers among lowest paid in U.S.

A recent article by Tribune Media lists Jefferson City as the second worst city in America when it comes to high school teachers’ salaries.

The report claims the average pay for a teacher in Jefferson City is $38,930, an amount that was taken from a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics survey.

Jefferson City School Board officials were dissatisfied with how the area was portrayed saying the average salary listed, is nowhere near correct.

ABC 17 News researched how the bureau defines “Jefferson City” and learned it includes all the school districts within Cole, Moniteau, Callaway and Osage counties.
