Woman gets help from attorney general on defective fridge
After spending $2,300 on a new refrigerator from Sears, Gale Burch ofMontgomery City, said it broke down.
That was the beginning of a weekslong repair process consisting of phone calls, emails and more than six visits from a technician.
“So, from June 8 to the 23rd, they expected a family of six to do without refrigeration – which was not OK with us,” said Burch.
She eventually contacted ABC 17 News and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.
“Ms. Burch contacted us, we contacted the company and in a very short period of time, this matter was taken care of. The refrigerator was repaired and the consumer was more than satisfied,” said Joseph Bindbeutel, chief counsel for consumer protection.
The Attorney General’s Office tells ABC 17 News they receive more than 140,000 consumer complaints every year.
