Group holds Confederate Flag rally in Mid-Missouri

Nearly 20 people flew the Confederate Flag in a drive from Fulton to Jefferson City Saturday.

The group called MoCAFS, Missouri Confederate Flag Supporters, drove together from the Walmart in Fulton, down Highway 54 and ended at a Walmart in Jefferson City.

The campaign for the drive began in July. Organizers said it is meant to be a peaceful demonstration of American history, not of racism or hate. Those who attended said they hoped to preserve history, not destroy it.

“I started finding out that everybody’s against it, and they’re starting to take the flag off the TV shows and taking it out of the stores and everything,” Harley Mantle, who participated in the rally, said. “I think that’s pretty stupid. They need to go back to school and learn their American history before they want to ban something that’s part of history.”

The group said they chose to start and end the rally at Walmarts since the company has stopped selling all items related to the confederate flag.
