YMCA of Boonville to expand facilities after fundraiser

The YMCA of Boonville is expanding its facilities after a fundraiser.

A total of $5,500 was raised in one day thanks to Mayor Julie Thacher, the community of Boonville and the Boonville Police Department.

The Masonic Home of Missouri, a non-profit charitable organization that provides statewide programs, matched the $5,500. This brought the grand total up to $11,000.

Approximately 150 to 175 children in the Boonville community are going hungry. The YMCA offers meals throughout the year for children. They offer two during the school year, and one along with snacks during the summer.

Children who have working parents, and need a camp but cannot afford one, are not turned away.

The money goes towards their summer camps and provides snacks during the day. It will also expand the kitchen, where more food can be prepped.

Next year’s goal is to make $20,000.
