Police investigating home invasion in central Columbia

Two suspects remain on the loose after a home invasion with a gun in central Columbia.

It happened just before midnight Monday near Garth and Grand Avenue.

Police say two male suspects forced their way into a residence, displayed handguns and demanded money. There were five people inside the home at the time.

One male victim, 50, was injured while fighting one of the suspects. During the fight, at least one round was fired inside the home. It did not hurt anyone in the area. Police also say the suspects assaulted the victim before running off.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries from the assault and drove himself to a local hospital. It wasn’t clear Tuesday how much money and property the suspects got away with.

During search of the residence, officers located marijuana and drug paraphernalia in view in the living room.

Police used a k-9 unit to try to track the suspects, but were not able to find them. The suspects are described as younger black males wearing dark clothing and with cloth covering their faces.

The investigation is on-going. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Columbia Police Department or CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
