Heath care workers remind parents about immunizations

Weeks before the start of the fall semester, heath care workers are reminding parents to make sure their child’s vaccinations are up to date.

“A lot of parents just don’t realize that their children are due for immunizations, so they go to register, end up finding out that you can’t register until you get these vaccines,” saysJessi Kempker with the Cole County Health Department.

Children going into kindergarten are required to get certain shots before going to class for the first time.

Students entering eighth grade are also required to get updated vaccinations.

Kempker says the Cole County Health Department and other clinics tend to get increasingly busy leading up to the semester.

“Definitely like the week of registration and the two to three weeks following we’ll definitely be very busy trying to get kids up-to-date,” says Kempker.
