Jefferson City plant releasing mystery substance into creek

Over the past few months, Jefferson City residents along Sue Drive have been waking up to white mystery substances in a creek that runs through their neighborhood.

The jelly-like substances are surrounded by bubbles and can stand as high as 12 feet.

ABC 17 News reached out to city officials about the complaint and they told us they have been in contact with Unilever, which is near the creek.

Officials tell us the plant has been releasing a substance into the creek on accident and should have the problem solved by Friday.

The last known release was this past Monday.

We were told the substance could be making it’s way into the creek because of a collapsed pipe, or an improper connection.

It is not clear what the substance is, or if it is harmful to children and pets who might come into contact with it in the creek.

We reached out to Unilever for comment but they did not return our call.
