Columbia Council to vote on adding more lights to park

The Columbia City Council is set to vote Monday night on adding more lights to Stephens Lake Park along the East Walnut Trail, making the park safer.

The Parks and Recreation Department wants to add dusk to dawn lights in places like East Walnut Trail because it is so dark.

Trail safety has been in the spotlight after a woman was assaulted on the Hinkson Creek Trail a few weeks ago. There are still no arrests in that case.

Council members are also expected to vote on using an FAA grant and transportation sales tax funds to reconstruct a runway and a taxiway at the Columbia Regional Airport.

They will also finalize an agreement for more testing at Hinkson Creek.

A vote on the plan to create two positions at the Police Department is also scheduled for Monday night. They include a police trainer and a crime scene investigator.
