Jefferson City woman recovering from snake bite

A Jefferson City woman who was bitten by a Copperhead snake this past Saturday was taken out of the Intensive Care Unit on Monday afternoon.

Doris Smith, of Cole County was in her yard Saturday morning when her family believes she was picking up sticks and mistakenly picked up a Copperhead snake.

Her husband, Charles rushed her to St. Mary’s hospital after seeing the bite wound.

She was bitten on her index finger, but her entire arm is now swollen and she’s dealing with a lot of pain.

Monday evening, doctors were still flushing her system through the use of an IV.

Smith is expected to make a full recovery.
