Storm chances return this week

An Isolated storm will be possible by Monday morning, but storm chances will increase through the day. Scattered thunderstorms will move in with a cold front Monday evening. Storms will become more widespread, with heavy rainfall possible, overnight and into Tuesday morning. The front will stall out in Mid-Missouri Tuesday night, which will keep storm chances in the forecast through the work week.

The amount of CAPE (a measure of potential energy) along with decent wind shear will be enough to support a slight risk of storms becoming severe. The slight risk area will be in northwestern Missouri during Monday afternoon and into the evening, as the front pushes into Mid-Missouri. The primary risks will be damaging wind and large hail, but unfortunately an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. Flash flooding will also be a concern as heavy rainfall will become likely late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. 1-3 inches of rainfall through Wednesday looks likely, but locally heavier amounts of 4+ inches will be possible due to thunderstorm activity.
