Woman killed in I-70 crash outside Columbia

Crews shutdown both lanes of I-70 westbound Wednesday morning following an injury crash. At least one pickup truck and three semis were involved.

The wreck happened just before 9:00 a.m.

A woman was killed while she was stuck in traffic waiting in a line of cars on the interstate due to an accident down the road.

A tractor trailer went through the warning area and and ran into the back end of the woman’s pickup truck.

She was waiting in the westbound lane that stretched all the way to the Lake of the Woods exit.

MoDOT had put up signage warning of the incident ahead. The Highway Patrol had cruisers with flashing lights, but that tractor trailer still went through.

The woman driving the pickup was taken to the hospital and died shortly after.

One other person was hurt during the crash and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
