Russellville man charged with domestic assault, armed criminal action

A Russellville man is charged with domestic assault and armed criminal action after allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a wooden furniture leg.

Cole County deputies responded to the 5400 block of Simpson St. in Russellville early Sunday morning for a domestic assault that happened earlier on Saturday night.

A woman told deputies her boyfriend attacked her and she was vomiting up blood.

Deputies interviewed Brett Bergman, who had a swollen right hand, blood on his hands, and on the shorts he was wearing.

According to court documents, the woman’s face was swollen, covered in dried up blood, and had several cuts.

She also had cuts on her arms.

When asked by deputies, she said she didn’t remember what happened, but said her boyfriend assaulted her.

Both Bergman and the victim were taken to Capital Region Medical Center to be examined.

Bergman said he didn’t remember much from the night after leaving a bar in Russellville, but said he believed his girlfriend was cheating on him.

Bergman said he remembered having an argument with his girlfriend in the guest bedroom. Deputies saw several items in the guest room were broken, and there was blood and vomit on the bed and flood.

Deputies also found a wooden furniture leg that had blood and hair on it, the same color as the victim’s.

Bergman said he would have been the only one who could have done this to the victim.

He was taken to the Cole County Jail.
