Family of homicide victim speaks out about recent crime in Columbia

“Everybody wants to bang bang and nobody wants to think think,” said James Dunn Sr. as he talked about recent crime in Columbia.

Dunn Sr.’s son Rickie was shot and killed in Columbia in November and police still have not made any arrests.

“It’s just like salt in the wound every day,” Dunn Sr. told ABC 17 News Monday. “You see on the news there where so many of the cases are being solved in Columbia at a rapid rate and yet here it is almost a year later on one and something should have broke by now. Someone should have said something.”

Rickie Dunn’s younger brother Josh said he feels the same way.

“I feel like the town let my brother down,” Josh Dunn said. “You know, he was a good dude. He wasn’t a gangster. He was a star football player at Hickman.”

While police aren’t releasing any new information about Rickie Dunn’s case, his father said the family remains hopeful.

And as Dunn Sr. patiently awaits justice for his son, he’s speaking out against other recent crime in Columbia.

“The question keeps coming up,” he said. “How many have to be shot? How much shooting have to take place before someone starts saying something? Today, it’s us. Tomorrow, it could be your family. But we are all our brother’s keepers. And we all need to realize there’s a serious problem going on in Columbia.”

ABC 17 News reached out the Columbia Police Street Crimes Division to ask about the Rickie Dunn case, but as of Monday night had not heard back yet.

Crime Stoppers is still offering a reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. If you know anything, you’re asked to call Columbia police or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
