Boone County Fire Protection District requests land amendment
The Boone County Fire Protection District is looking to expand its station on Scott Boulevard.
According to city planner Steve McIntyre, the station was originally allotted 6,000 square feet.
It must now ask the city’s permission to go beyond that initial 6,000 fEEt so the city can make sure it won’t affect the neighboring area in a negative way.
The district wants to add two additional rooms onto the station in order to accommodate more people.
McIntyre said he doesn’t see how the expansion will be a problem for the community, considering it’s not a large expansion and the station has already been there for a while without any issues.
“Certainly the negative impact potentially for a residential neighbor would be the occurrence of a fire station there to begin with,” he said. “In this case, the fire station has already been on the site for a number of years and expanding that building to include new rooms for housing firefighters is not an issue.”
The Planning and Zoning Commission will vote on the proposed amendment in July, and it will go to a vote before the City Council in August.
