Officials announced on Monday the recently-named 911 director for Columbia and Boone County is resigning after spending less than six months on the job.

Scott Shelton will step down as director of Joint Communications effective immediately.

Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey will again serve as interim director. Leaders emphasize despite the quick transition, there will be no gaps in emergency service.
