Rain and storm chances Sunday night

Severe thunderstorms started to develop Sunday afternoon in Northern Missouri along a cold front. This cold front will push southward and move into Mid-Missouri Sunday evening. Most of the storms will move into Mid-Missouri after 9PM and start to taper off overnight. A few showers could linger into Monday morning, but dry conditions will return later Monday afternoon.

There is a risk of thunderstorms becoming strong or severe Sunday night. The main threats will be winds greater than 60 mph and hail larger than 1 inch in diameter. An isolated tornado can not be ruled out north of I-70, but the risk is very low.

Most of Mid-Missouri will pick up around .5 inches of rainfall from this event with up to 1 inch possible north of I-70. Due to already saturated grounds and high river levels flooding is also a concern. For live weather updates, follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
