JC school board said school district is over capacity
The president of the Jefferson City School board said they are feeling pressure from all over the school district to make more room for their students.
John Ruth, the president of the school board, said they are hoping to get the issue of adding an additional middle school on the November 2015 ballot.
“The concept that we talked about today would be a long term and immediate fix for East. It would be a fantastic re-purposing of the current east and that re-purposing would be a school of choice for community members,” said Ruth.
The building would be located on East McCarty Street behind the current Lewis and Clark Middle School.
He also said East School students are not the only ones who would be able to attend.
“Pioneer, North, Callaway… We would have to establish a transportation system to where everyone could attend, but yeah, it would be for everyone.”
The school board will be meeting June 15th to continue the discussion of the elementary school, as well as bring up a conversation about starting a new high school.
