Columbia City Council hears report on Creasy Springs Road
The Columbia City Council heard a report Monday night about the number of recent crashes on Creasy Springs Road in North Columbia.
The report comes after an 18-year-old woman and a Fulton man were involved in a deadly crash on the road back on May 3.
Some council members wanted to know why the report only had information dating back to 2013.
City Manager Mike Matthes said the report is the best information they have right now because the road was only annexed into the city a few years back.
The report said there have been two wrecks in the area of Creasy Springs Road and Prairie view since 2013, including the deadly May 3 crash.
But the report also said there were 24 calls for wrecks along other parts of Creasy Springs Road in 2013 and parts of 2014.
Five of those were injury accidents.
There have been 19 calls for wrecks along various parts of Creasy Springs during the last year.
Mayor Bob McDavid is the one who requested the report after ABC 17 News did a story about the crash.
McDavid said he agrees the road is curvy and can be dangerous, but that right now they don’t have the millions of dollars needed to fix it.
He said they will be in talks with engineers about what to do and they’ll be considering more signage and other smaller changes.
“It’s not a dangerous road at 35 miles per hour,” McDavid said. “But people are not driving 35 miles an hour. So that’s what the challenge is to us and our engineers. What can we do to make it safer?”
McDavid said the city has a $200 million backlog on road projects and that there are other projects that take priority currently.
Fifth Ward Councilwoman Laura Nauser brought up the traffic issue on Forum Boulevard.
