Jefferson City to choose new contract for trash services

Jefferson City is in the middle of choosing a new contract for trash services.

For the last 7 years, the city has used Republic Waste for residential homes and businesses.

Leaders just finished requests for a bid last week trying to get a cheaper deal.

This comes after several companies asked for the ability to pick their own provider.

They think they can save money by making their own choice.

ABC 17 News sat down with 3rd ward city councilman Ken Hussey during ABC 17 News at 9 a.m.

“Throughout the process, a number of companies expressed an interest in bidding on the contract, and I know that we’ve had one local provider that has a strong interest in the commercial side of things. Republic Waste would probably have an interest in the full package. You never know, you put it out there, you never know what companies may come out and have an interest in this contract,” said Hussey.

The city council expects to get all of the proposals by late July.

After sharing them with the public, they should make a decision later this summer.
