Boone Co. deputies respond to break-in north of Columbia

Boone County deputies responded to a break-in at a home north of Columbia Tuesday afternoon.

Boone Co. Sheriff’s Detective Tom O’Sullivan confirmed to ABC 17 News a homeowner returned to find an armed suspect in his home at Wade School Road and Akeman Bridge Road at around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon.

The victim told deputies the suspect had a gray colored handgun and immediately fled the home through a back door as the victim returned home.

The victim told ABC 17 News the suspect told him to “back up” and fired one shot at him as he fled the home. The victim was not hurt.

The home was ransacked and the victim said 7 long guns and pistols were stolen.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 160 pounds, with dark hair wearing a ball cap, baggy t-shirt, blue jeans, and a backpack.

Deputies sent in a dog to search the home, but the suspect was still on the run as of 4:30 p.m.
