Thousands show up for Memorial Day parade honoring veterans

Thousands of people gathered to remember those who lost their lives protecting our country and those who continue to serve at the 27th annual Salute to America Memorial Day parade in downtown Columbia.

The events on Broadway kicked off Monday with a jump by members of the Golden Knights parachute team.

Organizers told ABC 17 News that only members of the military and related fields were allowed to walk in the parade, which had a total of 165 units.

Everything ended up outside the Boone County courthouse at the corner of Eighth and Walnut streets, with a ceremony at the veterans memorial.
