Strong storms possible through the weekend

Warm temperatures coupled with the moist, southerly wind flow are making our atmosphere unstable over the region which will play a role in this weekend’s weather.

A warm front lifted north Thursday night, locking in the warm temperatures and muggy air.

The associated cold front behind that will approach eastern Kansas and western Missouri late Saturday night into early Sunday, passing through Mid-Missouri Sunday night into early Monday morning.

There is a risk for severe storms west of Highway 65 on Saturday ahead of the cold front, and that risk shifts east on Sunday, with the very far northeastern part of Mid-Missouri included on Sunday’s slight risk from the SPC. However, isolated strong storms are not ruled out for Mid-Missouri on Sunday afternoon. All modes of severe weather will be possible, but not all storms that develop will become severe.
